WebP to JPG Converter — Free Online
Turn WebP images into JPG files that any device, printer or upload form will accept. You control the JPG quality with a slider, and the file size updates so you can see the trade-off immediately. No files are uploaded at any point.
How to use the webp to jpg converter
- Add your .webp files to the drop area above.
- Set the quality slider — 85–90% is the sweet spot for photos.
- Check the before and after sizes, then download.
Two lossy formats in a row
Both WebP and JPG throw away detail to save space, so this conversion is a second lossy pass over an image that has already had one. In practice that is rarely a problem — at 85–90% quality the second pass is invisible on a photograph — but it is a real cost, and it is why you should convert from the largest, cleanest WebP you have rather than from a thumbnail or a screenshot of it.
Where it does show is on flat colour and sharp edges: text in a screenshot, a logo, a chart, a UI capture. JPG smears those in a way that is hard to unsee, because its compression assumes photographic content. If your WebP is that kind of image, convert it to PNG instead — the file will be larger but the edges stay clean.
Choosing a quality level, and what happens to transparency
The slider is the whole decision. 90% is effectively indistinguishable from the source and suits anything being printed or archived. 85% is the standard choice for web and email and typically halves the file again. Below about 75% artefacts start appearing around high-contrast edges, and below 60% they are obvious on any screen. Compare the before and after sizes shown for each file rather than guessing — the right number depends on the picture.
JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas cannot survive. A logo with a see-through background comes out on white, which is usually what you want for a document and definitely not what you want for a website. When the image has transparency you care about, use WebP to PNG and keep it.
WebP assets in WordPress and email
Many themes and email clients still expect JPG or PNG in the media library even though the site serves WebP to visitors. Converting downloaded WebP thumbnails to JPG lets you drop them into a newsletter or slide deck without “broken image” placeholders in Outlook or older Android mail apps.
Batch convert up to 20 files. For icons and logos with transparency, skip JPG entirely — the white fill will ruin the design on any coloured background.
