HEIC to PNG Converter — Free Online
Convert Apple’s HEIC photos into PNG, the format editors, design tools and documentation systems accept without complaint. PNG uses lossless compression, so nothing in the decoded image is thrown away. Files are processed on your device and never sent anywhere.
How to use the heic to png converter
- Add one or more .heic or .heif files to the drop area.
- Each photo is decoded with WebAssembly and re-saved as PNG on your device.
- Download the PNG files individually, or use Download all.
Is PNG the right target for a photo?
PNG is lossless, which sounds like the safe choice and often is not. Because it stores every pixel exactly, a 12-megapixel iPhone photo that occupies 2 MB as HEIC becomes 20–30 MB as PNG — an order of magnitude larger with no visible improvement, because the detail HEIC discarded was already gone before you started. Converting HEIC to PNG cannot recover it.
So choose PNG deliberately. It is the right call when the image is going into a design or editing tool that will re-save it repeatedly, when you need an alpha channel, or when something in your workflow simply refuses anything else. For sending, printing, uploading or archiving ordinary photos, HEIC to JPG produces a file a tenth the size that nobody can tell apart.
What survives the conversion
Pixels and dimensions come through exactly — a 4032 × 3024 photo stays 4032 × 3024, and the colours are unchanged. What does not come through is most of the metadata: EXIF fields such as the capture date, camera model, lens and GPS coordinates are dropped rather than copied into the PNG.
For sharing that is a feature, since a holiday photo posted straight from a phone otherwise carries the coordinates of where it was taken. For cataloguing it is a loss worth knowing about, so keep the HEIC originals if the capture dates matter to you. Live Photos are also flattened to their still frame, and images shot in Apple's HDR mode are tone-mapped to standard range so they look right on ordinary displays.
When a design tool rejects HEIC
Figma, Canva, older Photoshop builds and many print-shop upload forms accept PNG but not HEIC — even on Windows with codecs installed, batch workflows break on the first unsupported file. Converting a folder of iPhone exports here unblocks the pipeline without installing Apple’s HEIF extensions on every machine in the office.
Batch up to 20 files at a time. If the goal is email or web rather than editing, HEIC to JPG is almost always the better output — same compatibility win at a fraction of the PNG file size.
Frequently asked questions
Add your .heic or .heif files to the drop zone. This HEIC to PNG converter decodes them locally and re-saves lossless PNG files you can download — no signup and no upload.
Choose PNG when you will edit again, need sharp screenshots or want zero extra compression loss. Choose JPG for everyday sharing and uploads when a smaller file matters more than lossless quality.
Almost always. HEIC is tuned for photos; PNG stores every pixel losslessly. A 2 MB HEIC can become a much larger PNG — that is the trade-off for a lossless HEIC to PNG conversion.
Yes. If the HEIC/HEIF has an alpha channel, the PNG keeps it. Ordinary iPhone camera photos are opaque, so transparency mainly matters for HEIC exported from design apps.
Yes. The conversion runs in your browser with WebAssembly. Your photos are not uploaded to a server, which is safer than most online HEIC converters.
Yes — up to 20 HEIC files at a time. There is no daily limit and no watermark because processing stays on your device.
HEIC is Apple’s container; HEIF is the broader format family. Both .heic and .heif work here — drop either in to convert HEIC/HEIF to PNG.
Editors, documentation systems and print workflows often prefer PNG. Converting HEIC to PNG avoids “unsupported format” errors without installing codecs.
It does not invent detail. It preserves the decoded pixels without a second lossy pass. If the HEIC was already compressed, PNG keeps that result exactly.
Yes. Use this page in Chrome or Edge — no HEVC extension required. The browser-based HEIC to PNG converter handles decode and export locally.
