Static versus dynamic QR codes
The codes generated here are static: your link is encoded directly into the pattern, so scanning it goes straight to your destination with nothing in between. Nothing can expire, no account can lapse, and no third party sits in the path. That is why the code keeps working years after you printed it, and why there is no limit on scans.
Dynamic codes work differently. They encode a short redirect URL owned by a QR service, which then forwards to your real destination — which lets you change the target later and count scans, but makes the code permanently dependent on that company's subscription and servers. Plenty of printed material has been quietly bricked by a free plan ending. Use dynamic codes when you genuinely need editable destinations or analytics; use static codes for anything going to print with a URL that will not change.
Making a code that scans first time
Three things decide reliability. Contrast comes first: keep the pattern dark on a light background, because many scanners will not attempt an inverted code. Size comes second — as a rule of thumb the printed code needs to be about a tenth of the distance it will be scanned from, so a poster read at two metres wants roughly 20 cm. Third, leave the quiet zone alone; the empty margin around the pattern is part of the specification, and cropping it tight is the most common reason a code fails.
Shorter data also means a sparser, more forgiving pattern. A long URL full of tracking parameters produces dense modules that need more size and better print quality to resolve, so trim the link before you encode it. Finally, test the finished code from the actual medium — printed at final size, or on the screen it will live on — with more than one phone, because camera quality varies more than the codes do.

Static QR codes on printed material outlive every marketing campaign — which is why avoiding redirect services matters for menus, conference badges and shop-window posters.
